We have just concluded the June Camp 2026 last week, and I hope that it was a great period of fun and fellowship with brethren from both congregations, building and renewing friendships and creating memories together. Amidst the fun and games, we also heard many great devotions and lessons throughout the camp, and how we can apply these lessons in our daily lives.
The theme of this year's June Camp is “Making Hard Choices”. One of the more memorable lessons that I still remember was the lesson by bro Benjamin Tan, where he presented a few real-life scenarios where we were supposed to make choices on what actions we would perform in each scenario, then we were shown similar scenarios in the Scriptures, and the same set of choices.
The real-life scenarios lead to a lot more varied choices, with each choice being chosen by at least a few people. However, the scenarios in the Scriptures were a lot easier to choose, and most people were able to agree on which choice to make. This naturally invites the question - why was it so hard to choose in the real-life scenarios, but much easier when it came to those in the Scriptures, even though they were similar?
Everyone face choices in their lives, both big and small, and some of them are very hard choices because they are very important, such as choosing which school to go to or finding a suitable job. While these choices might be hard, we can look to these three sources for guidance:
Scriptures
As we have seen from above, we are able to look to the Scriptures to give us guidance on how to come to the best choice. By studying the examples of the people in the Scriptures, we are able to follow those who chose correctly and learn from those who did not.
People around us
It might seem like you are the only one that has been facing this hard choice, but in reality, many people would have had faced similar choices in the past. By getting advice from the brethren who have gone through these hard choices before, we are able to understand the situation better and make a better choice from there.
God
When the choice becomes too hard, and we are uncertain on what to do, we can always turn to prayer,
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Let us not forget all of these the next time we are faced with a hard choice.
