Growing Closer - Callum Low

On 20th Aug 2023, we all received the good news that Callum took the decision to be baptized. It is always heartening to see the young amongst us take this significant first step in their Christian journey. Many of us have watched him grow up in church – now let’s learn more about him and from him.

Farand:

Hi Callum, can you give a quick introduction of yourself, for the benefit of those who might not know you well?

Callum:

My name is Callum, this year I am 13.

Farand:

Could you share a bit more, e.g. what are your hobbies, or what is your CCA in school?

Callum:

In my free time, I like to surf the internet on my computer. I also like reading as my hobby. My CCA in school is Infocomm.

Farand:

Are there particular topics or genre that you tend to lean towards, when surfing or choosing books to read?

Callum:

I tend to choose books on games like Minecraft.

Farand:

I believe you came to church since young? At what age did you come to church? How was that journey like? From the start to a point that you are confident in salvation.

Callum:

I came to church when I was around 5. At the start of that journey, I felt it was redundant as I felt that since my parents were at home, I wanted to be with them. It wasn’t until I heard a sermon on salvation that I realised that I was lost in sin and had to repent. I eventually resolved to follow Jesus and was baptized on Aug 20, 2023, 2 days short of my 13th birthday.

Farand:

Can you walk us through your decision to do so? What sparked that choice?

Callum:

I kind of felt that since there was a road tosSalvation, to just take the road. I did not want to wait for any longer as any longer might not exist either – we might not know. What sparked that choice was Uncle Ernest, he told me that he was baptized when he was 12. I thought to myself that since he could do it, why can’t I.

Farand:

Any favourite biblical quotes or characters or stories that are close to your heart?

Callum:

2 Peter 2:20-22, 2 Timothy 3:12

2 Pet 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
2 Tim 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Farand:

Do you feel that anything has changed or are you planning to change anything since you have been baptised?

Callum:

I have been planning to stop lying and tell the truth.

Farand:

Thanks Callum for your time. Any final thoughts or words?

Callum:

I would like to thank Aunty Doris (Sis Juek Tiang) for bringing me to church every week without fail for 8 years. I would also like to thank Bro Ernest for teaching me the true way of God so I will not be lost anymore.
