The Power Of Prayer

Text: Eph 6:18-20

A. For self.

  1. A soldier needs to communicate his needs to his commander during war.

  2. Likewise, we need to pray to God for our needs in the spiritual warfare (Eph 6:18). a. At all times (Luk 18:1). b. With all prayer and supplication (Php 4:6-7). c. With all watchfulness and perseverance (Mat 26:41).

  3. Praying for our needs helps us to grow in our dependence on God (Psa 18:6).

B. For saints.

  1. A soldier needs to communicate the needs of his comrades to his commander during war.

  2. Likewise, we need to pray to God for the needs of our brethren in the spiritual warfare (Eph 6:18). a. The afflicted (Jas 5:13). b. The sick (Jas 5:14-15). c. The weak (Jas 5:16).

  3. Praying for the needs of our brethren helps us to grow in our love for them (Psa 35:13-14).

C. For sinners.

  1. A soldier needs to communicate reinforcement needs to his commander during war.

  2. Likewise, we need to pray to God for the addition of the lost in the spiritual warfare (Eph 6:19-20). a. For opportunity (1Th 2:18). b. For courage (Joh 17:14). c. For wisdom.(1Co 10:32-33).

  3. Praying for the needs of the lost helps us to grow in our compassion towards them (Rom 10:1).
